The Pender Island Community Farmland Acquisition Project (PICFAPS) is a registered society, formed in 2009, with a vision of a farmland trust to be held in perpetuity for the benefit of the Pender Island community. The benefits include enhancing local food security by supporting the production of island-grown healthy food through sustainable farming practices, while protecting the environment and providing opportunities for food-related education and research.
With consultation and assistance from The Land Conservancy and Farm Folk/City Folk Community Farms Program for BC, and based upon diverse models of many established community farms in our province, PICFAPS is shaping a vision that reflects the needs and interests of Pender Island. Since their first meetings in early 2009, the organization has grown in numbers and recieved enthusiastic endorsement and support of PICA, the PI Farmers’ Institute, the PI Women’s Institute, the PI Elementary School and the PI Organic Community Garden Society.
If you would like to join PICFAPS, member meetings are held the 2nd and 4th Wednesday of each month from 7-9 pm in the Lounge of the Community Hall on Pender Island.
